Diane L. VanDerKamp
Diane L. VanDerKamp, 90, passed away on June 23, 2025 at the Tidewell Hospice House, in Sarasota, Florida.
She was born Diane Lee Burnett on October 27, 1934 in Fulton, New York, the daughter of Alma “Chick” (Marchner) Zarfutti. Diane grew up in Webster, NY, graduating from Webster High School in 1952. She married James E. VanDerKamp on August 9, 1952 and together raised four sons: Theodore J. VanDerKamp, II, James E. VanDerKamp, Jr., Christopher M. VanDerKamp and Patrick J. VanDerKamp in Walworth, NY. In 1979, they moved to Houma, LA where she worked as an apartment complex manager for over 20 years. Having lost her husband in 1988, she retired to Pensacola Beach, FL for several years. She returned to Houma, LA for several years, residing with her son Chris’ family. She also enjoyed many years in Kailua, HI with her son Jim’s family and in Pensacola, FL and later in Sarasota, FL, with her son Ted’s family. She made fast friends in all of those places, whether church groups, craft circles, lunch buddies or cooking competitions, specializing in her award-winning Lemon Bisque.
The last few years she resided at Desoto Beach Club, an independent living facility in Sarasota, FL, where she was quite active. She made many close friends while there and when she wasn’t on the bus enjoying a day outing, she was playing cards, doing puzzles, listening to Mario Lanza or Il Volo, involved in a Bible study group, watching one of her many John Wayne DVDs, or sharing cooking tips with the kitchen staff. It’s clear that she will leave a void in the lives of many.
Diane is predeceased by her husband Jim, her mother Alma, her brother Charles Burnett, and sisters Shirley Burnett Minikhiem and Victoria Burnett Holtz. She is survived by her brother Terrance Burnett of Webster, four sons, nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great, great grandchild and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Diane will be laid to rest in Walworth Cemetery, Walworth, NY alongside her husband. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Tidewell Hospice House, where she received such marvelous care during her final days.
