Carl Eric Lantz
Carl Eric Lantz, age 89, of Punta Gorda, FL, passed away with his wife and daughter by his side on November 8, 2023 at the Tidewell Port Charlotte Hospice House. Carl was born on October 22, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York, the oldest son of Eric and Alma Lantz. The family moved to Cleveland when he was a young boy and he spent most of his life in NE Ohio.
Carl married Lois (Unterberger) Lantz on December 15, 1956 and they would have celebrated their 67th year of marriage this year. He attended college at Wittenberg University and graduated from Fenn College (now Cleveland State) with a degree in Health Physics. He worked at Victoreen Instruments as sales manger selling radiation detection equipment. He later started his own Manufacturer’s Rep business and had the pleasure of working with his daughter, Amy, until he retired.
Carl loved to sing and took part in many theatrical productions. He got involved in the Singing Angels when his daughter joined the organization. He loved all classical music and was a voracious reader. He was an avid skier but his favorite pastime was sailing. He and Lois owned 4 different sailboats over their lifetime and were active members of Chagrin Lagoons Yacht Club for many years. In retirement, Carl & Lois lived on a 37 ft. Trawler named Puffin and spent many years traveling up and down the Intracoastal Waterway, crossing over to the Bahamas several times to winter on Grand Abaco Island. He embraced his Swedish heritage and loved having a glass of red wine or rum and a cigar on the bow of his boat. He and Lois hosted many Swedish Smorgasbords on Christmas Eve for family and friends, always featuring Glögg and Aquavit.
Carl is survived by his beloved wife and first mate, Lois Lantz, as well as his loving daughter Amy (Ed) and grandchildren Brian (Samantha) and Katie. He was preceded in death by his parents Eric and Alma, as well as his siblings Ernie (Ronda) Lantz, Gerald Lantz, Herman Lantz, and Anna (Johanna) Davis. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Singing Angels or the Tidewell Foundation for the Port Charlotte Hospice House.
