Alan Korpi

Alan James Korpi, age 76, passed away peacefully in his home on June 5th, surrounded by his family. He was born June 26, 1947, in Wakefield, MI to Thomas and Agnes Korpi (Johnson). He graduated from AD Johnston High School in Bessemer, MI. From there he attended Michigan State University, earning a BA in Business Administration. Upon graduation, he was hired into the General Motors Corporation at the Flint Truck Assembly to work in finance. From 1969-1971, he took leave to serve his country in the Army stationed in Alaska. Returning to General Motors, he worked in various finance positions in Flint and the corporate office in Detroit. He attained his master’s in business administration from the University of Michigan shortly after returning from the military. After retiring from General Motors in 1999, he continued to work in a consulting capacity until 2009. He moved to North Port, FL to live his remaining years. Alan loved his family and friends, playing golf, playing games with his grandsons, and reading a good book.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Agnes Korpi, and an infant sister. He is survived by his wife Carol, two children Matthew (Diane) Korpi of Saginaw, MI and Sarah (Mike) O’Shea of Temperance, MI, and two grandchildren Michael and Tyler O’Shea. From marriage and love, he gained four additional children: Tim (Terri) Foley, Tom (Geri) Foley, Margo (John) Barber, Denise (Alex) McAllister, and five additional grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Tom (Nicky)Korpi and Randy (Luann) Korpi, several nieces and nephews, many good friends, and his previous wife, Marilyn Korpi.

Funeral services will be on Saturday, June 15th, at 2:00 pm at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Charlotte, FL. A memorial service will also be held on July 27th at 11:00 am at St Luke’s Lutheran Church in Temperance, MI. Interment will be held at a later date at the Holly National Cemetery in Holly, MI. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tidewell Hospice, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or the Cancer Society.
