Frederick James Stockbarger, Sr.
Frederick J. Stockbarger Sr., 84, passed away peacefully in his home, on July 14, 2024, in Port Charlotte, Florida. Born on May 19, 1940, in Mishawaka, Indiana. Fred lived a full and vibrant life marked by his commitment to his family, faith, and community.
Fred’s career was as diverse as it was impactful. He began his professional journey as a police officer in South Bend, Indiana, dedicating himself to the safety and well-being of his community. He then served at the Christian Center before embarking on a 27-year tenure at Safety Kleen Corporation, where he excelled as a Corporate Regional Manager. Fred also took his expertise to the University of Florida as a volunteer throwing coach for the Track and Field Team.
A devout Christian, Fred was an active member of Movement Church in Port Charlotte, where he found great solace and community. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his daily actions and decisions.
Known for his wit and intelligence, Fred also had a passion for sports. He was an enthusiastic athlete, participating in tennis, golf, track and field, football, and basketball. Beyond sports, he was a dedicated animal lover, which reflected his caring and loving nature.
Fred leaves behind a loving family, including his wife of 48 years, Jacqueline, and his children: Fred Jr., Eric (Christine), Tadd (Colleen), Clinton (Sara), Spenser (Lyndsay), and Westley Stockbarger; as well as, Denise (late Mike) Durham, Tina Young, and Allyson (Tyshawn) Pressley. He is also survived by his sister Connie Gessner, 21 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, May Bell and Maxwell Stockbarger; his brother, Ronnie Stockbarger; and grandchildren, Alfred Fox and Brianna Velez; as well as great-grandchildren, Kingston Barkmann and Jethro Durham.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on July 27, 2024, at Movement Church, located at 20444 Midway Boulevard, Port Charlotte, Florida, where friends and family will gather to honor and remember a man who was as humorous as he was wise, and as compassionate as he was devout.
