Linda Marie Edwards
Linda Marie (Smith) Edwards wife of the late Wayne C. Edwards, Sr., born on March 27, 1943, in New Bedford, MA, passed away on August 21, 2024, at the age of 81 in Port Charlotte, FL. Linda was a vibrant spirit known for her infectious laughter and outspoken nature. Throughout her life as a loving daughter, wife, and mother she dedicated herself to her community. She was involved in the town politics and committed to engaging with her community through volunteerism and public service.
Linda cherished time spent with her family and is survived by her sons, Wayne Jr. wife Stacie, Stephen wife Marilyn, Michael, and daughter Holly Robbins husband Matthew; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters Estelle Motta, Kathleen Marshall husband Tom, Joan Pickup husband Dana, Margaret Gray husband Tom; brothers Michael Smith, Lester Smith wife Helga along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved sister, Susan Smith.
Educated at Holy Family, Holy Name High School in New Bedford, MA, Linda continued to embody the values of her upbringing throughout her life. She was a devout member of St. Joseph’s Church in Fairhaven, MA, and St. Bernard’s Church in Port Charlotte, FL. She was deeply involved in church activities and found joy in family, walking, and reading.
A funeral mass celebrating both Linda and Wayne is scheduled at St. Joseph’s Church, 74 Spring St, Fairhaven, MA, on Thursday, September 26th at 10:00 AM with a gathering at the church hall following. In honor of Linda’s life, the family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Tidewell Hospice at tidewellfoundation.org.
Linda’s legacy of love, laughter, and service will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
