Arthur B. Bell

Arthur Bevier Bell of Venice, Florida, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2023, with his family at his side.

A proud US Navy and WWII veteran, Arthur was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carol, of 71 years; his parents, Arthur and Lillian Bell; and grandson, Taylor Brady.

Arthur was born in Canton, Ohio, on Valentine’s Day 1926, and graduated from Lehman High School in 1944. He enlisted in the US Navy, serving as part of “The Greatest Generation,” who put the freedom of our country ahead of themselves. He participated in the Okinawa invasion and was on board his ship in Tokyo Bay on September 2, 1945, when Japan signed the surrender papers.

He attended Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio. He was captain of the Purple Raiders basketball team, President of his senior class in 1950 and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. It continued to be an amazing year as he married the love of his life and President of his fan club, Carol Taylor, on June 30, 1950.

He started his business career that year at The Union Sand & Supply Company in Painesville, Ohio. He later moved on to The Thomas Brick Company, where he became President in 1979. He and Carol were members at the Painesville First Church Congregational and Madison Country Club. They retired in 1991 to make a full-time home in Venice, Florida, at The Plantation Golf & Country Club, where they were members for 26 years. He loved, loved, loved golf and, at the age of 87 recorded two holes-in-one. In 2017, Art and Carol moved to the Village on the Isle in Venice, Florida.

Arthur is survived by his 3 children: daughter Sally (Richard) Mowrey, son Andrew (Kim), and daughter Molly (Vernon) Mains. Arthur was a proud granddad to 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
