Mara Souers Fulk

Mara Souers Fulk passed peacefully, surrounded by family, on October 31, 2023. She was an energetic, positive spirit and a loving wife and mother to her husband, Keith, and children, Kiara and Alessandro. A spunky big sister, Mara was born July 6, 1969, in Milwaukee, WI. She was the oldest of three, Giovannina (Woody) and Oriana (Darren), and nieces Federica and Isabella from Seattle. The daughter of Angela Zullo-Souers and Timothy Souers, Mara’s contagious positivity and greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and loved ones.  Mara’s beautiful soul is also survived by numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless dear friends across the US and Europe. We will miss her and remember her always.

Mara loved to travel and create memories with her family, had great taste in clothes, and was as comfortable in a crowded room as she was in an intimate conversation. She taught us to cherish life and each other and to be the good in the world. She loved a good party, as was experienced by many, in May 2023 at her Celebration of Life.

Mara was raised in a Montessori community on the West Side of Milwaukee, WI. She attended Highland Community School, where her father taught, and continued with her Montessori education through 8th grade. This inspired her later to pursue and become a Montessori educator.  She loved teaching and began her Montessori career at Hyde Park Montessori School in Tampa, FL.  Shortly after, she joined Center Montessori School, Bradenton, FL – where she taught and later became an administrator. For over 20 years, Mara loved her students, supported the staff, and became a friend and mentor for many of the families.

When, in September of 2018, Mara was diagnosed with Leiomyosarcoma, the larger community and those she has touched throughout her life rallied around her and helped Mara fight valiantly. Mara quickly made friends at all the hospitals and cancer centers she visited and was an inspiration to many. She had an unstoppable appreciation of life and lived each day to the fullest, sharing her motto “Make it A Great Day” and “Ooh La La.”

The family wishes to express gratitude to the countless, families, individuals, neighbors, and friends who have supported Mara monetarily, emotionally and spiritually, with meals, special trips, visits, letters of support, and so much love. May we all embrace her kindness and pass it on.

Special thank yous to the staff at MD Anderson- Sarcoma department, Dr Christina Roland, to Dr Brian Berry and staff at Florida Cancer Specialists, and to all the staff at Tidewell Hospice, where Mara received loving care.

Mara’s Extraordinary Life will be Celebrated 1:30 – 3:00 PM, Sunday, November 5, 2023, at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd Street W Bradenton, FL.
