Unrestricted gifts help meet greatest needs

By Debbie Mason

The Tidewell Foundation believes that everyone who needs the world-class care of Tidewell Hospice should receive it, regardless of their ability to pay.

This commitment extends from medical care to complementary services that lift spirits and relieve pain, to grief care for adults and children.

Unrestricted gifts to the Tidewell Foundation also allow hospice programs to quickly pivot and grow as community needs change. They are powerful gifts that attest to the trust families have in Tidewell for care.

For Jack Rohner, making an unrestricted gift to Tidewell Foundation was an act of love and gratitude.

After moving to Sarasota, he heard about the positive experiences people had with Tidewell Hospice and reflected on the experience he and his wife of 70 years, Helen, had with hospice care in Chicago.

“They brought relief to both of us, my wife and me,” he said. “They came and helped a lot. Our nurse went above and beyond.”

“I felt like I had to do it,” he said of this gift.

He wanted to help ensure that others had access to the same quality care, because “if you need it, you need it,” he said.

Donor support of unrestricted gifts ensure that our not-for-profit Tidewell Hospice can continue to meet our community’s needs. The Tidewell Foundation is committed to supporting services not covered by Medicare, Medicaid, or private insurance.

To those contemplating making a gift, Mr. Rohner said, “If you have it in your heart and you approach it from a position of gratitude, you should make a gift.”
