Betty Boroughs

“It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Acts 20:35

Betty Boroughs (née Frampton), our cherished family matriarch, passed away on April 5th, 2025, at the age of 91. Born in rural Clarion, PA, her bucolic childhood left a lasting mark. Betty held a deep appreciation for the beauty and wonder of nature. Throughout her life, she found solace and peace amongst nature and God’s wild creatures. Betty moved to New York City in the early 1950s, working at Eastern Airlines and preparing to be a stewardess before she began her greatest accomplishment, being a mother.

Betty worked tirelessly for her six children, typing clothing labels for a penny a piece for extra income to fill their Easter baskets. She cooked countless meals, countless fat boy sandwiches, ham dinners and birthday cakes.

Betty’s greatest accomplishment, her greatest pride, was undoubtedly her family. Her boundless enthusiasm for her family was the largest source of joy in her life. The round up of the family news was her talk track for her phone calls as she would recount the successes of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

One of the greatest gifts Betty gave her six children, was the gift of each other. Betty’s children grew up honoring the focus on family that Betty instilled within them.

Betty was a devout Catholic. Her unwavering faith was the center of her life. A longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament in Bayside, NY, Betty was active in the church choir, where she and her family affectionately joked she sang like a bird. Betty loved music and her voice was a treasure she shared with her congregation. Betty’s generosity of spirit never wavered as she volunteered at Ozanam Hall nursing home in service to the elderly well into her own late 80s.

Betty is preceded in death by her baby son Patrick, her beloved son Robert, granddaughter Monica Anne, Son-in-law Brian, her brother Allen, and parents Pearl and Arnold.

She is survived by her children Mary (Josh) O’Leary, Michael (Jacqueline) Boroughs, John Boroughs, Monica (Michael) Lopoyda, Christine Pilling; her grandchildren James (Erin) O’Leary, Kathleen (Graham) Jones, Kelly (Scott) MacChesney, Kimberly (Brian) McGehee, Karaline Lopoyda, Krista Lopoyda, Mathew Lopoyda, Shannon (Phillip) Boroughs and Lauren Boroughs; and her great-grandchildren Ella, Jake, Mack, Harry, Collins, Boz, Poppy, Shep and Charlotte.

Services will be held privately for immediate family in Betty’s hometown of Clarion, Pennsylvania, where she will be returned home.
