James “Jim” Dennis Dundas
James Dennis Dundas (Jim) of Sarasota, Florida, passed away on June 20, 2024 at the age of 80. Jim was born in Indiana, Pennsylvania on February 26, 1944. His parents moved the family to Niagara Falls, Ontario where Jim grew up and attended school. He was a devoted and loving father to Cathy Dundas. He is survived by siblings Judy (Norm) Stefnitz, Dan Dundas, Fran Dundas, Peggy (Ron) Chalmers, Patti Dundas and Tom (Kathy) Dundas. Predeceased by parents Daniel Dundas and Kay (Dundas) Tilley, and siblings Jack Dundas, Mary Kay Dundas, Bill Dundas, Michael Dundas and Betty McRae.
Jim enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1962 where he became a Corporal with a specialty as Rifleman. He was stationed in Okinawa in 1964 when he was honorably discharged due to family hardship.
In his younger years, Jim owned a small construction company in the Buffalo area. After moving to Florida, he started Jim’s Pools which he operated for several years. Through the years he enjoyed travel, cruising, fishing, kayaking, music, theatre, art and dance. For the past 20 years, he was an avid ballroom dancer with the Sara Dance Center. In February 2024 Jim’s family joined him on a Caribbean cruise to celebrate his 80th birthday.
Jim was adventurous and had a fabulous sense of humor. He had many friends in the Sarasota area and beyond. He will be sadly missed by both friends and family.
A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, July 25 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Immediately following the mass, will be internment of the ashes in Mary’s Memorial Garden on the church property. The church is located at 2506 Gulf Gate Drive, Sarasota.
