Joerg Wayne Richmond

Joerg Wayne Richmond, 61, passed away peacefully at home in Sarasota, Florida on April 21, 2026, with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer.

Joerg was born on December 14, 1964, in Forest, Mississippi. He went on to pursue a career dedicated to caring for others, graduating from the Episcopal Hospital School of Perfusion Science in 1993. For more than 30 years, he served as a Cardiovascular Clinical Perfusionist, first at University of Maryland St. Joseph Hospital, and later at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. His work touched countless lives, often behind the scenes, reflecting the same humility and quiet dedication that defined him as a person.

Known for his kind, gentle nature and understated sense of humor, Joerg found his greatest joy in time spent outdoors—hunting, fishing, boating, and tending to his yard and orchids. He was happiest when surrounded by family and friends, often working quietly in the background to ensure everyone else was cared for. Whether hosting lively crab feasts or crawdad boils, preparing his award-winning chili, or sharing his highly requested deer jerky, Joerg created lasting memories through food, fellowship, and generosity.

A talented and resourceful man, Joerg had a remarkable ability to build or fix anything. He took pride in his home and eagerly welcomed visitors, making sure they were well fed! He was a Baltimore Ravens fan and always looked forward to game days. He loved his cat Millie and family dog Callie.

Joerg is survived by his wife of 37 years, Diane; son Michael and daughter-in-law Meaghan; daughter Molly and her fiancé Noah; mother Siglinde; stepmother Janis; sister Enrika; and brother Eric. He was also a beloved son-in-law, brother-in-law and “Uncle Joerg” to many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Richmond.

An open house will be held at Joerg’s home in Sarasota, FL on Sunday, May 3 from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM for his friends and colleagues in Sarasota to celebrate his life and reminisce.

Another celebration of Joerg’s life will be held at Matthew’s 1600 restaurant, 1600 Frederick Road, Catonsville, Maryland on Monday, May 11. A service will take place at Matthew’s from 4:00 to 5:00 PM, followed by a reception from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. All are welcome to attend the service, the reception, or both.

Church service and burial dates are forthcoming.

Joerg will be deeply missed.
