John Robert Winters
John R. Winters passed peacefully at 63 years old in Sarasota, Florida on July 19th, 2024. He was surrounded by his wife, Lisa Schuerholz-Winters, and children, Corrine and Jack Winters. John cared for his loving family deeply, and they were most important to him.
John was born in Cranston, Rhode Island to his father, John (Jack) Winters, and mother, Ruth Winters. He grew up in a loving home with his brothers David and Bob Winters. John graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 1983 with a BS in Accounting and started working immediately for Gilbane Building Company. He would spend the next 40 years of his career building relationships and receiving acknowledgment for the dedication he brought to Gilbane. He was proud of the contributions the company made to the community and to serve as Division Controller and Vice President.
John embraced his love for water throughout his life; from boating in Rhode Island with family growing up, lap swimming as an adult, riding ocean waves with his children, walking along Sarasota Bay with his wife, and most recently boating on Kentucky Lake with his brothers and extended family. Spending time with friends and family, golfing, puzzling, playing poker, and pool brought him much joy throughout his life. John was a lifelong fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. He regularly cheered on the men’s and women’s UConn Basketball teams to victory. He leaves a legacy of love, respect, and kindness for everyone who holds him in their heart.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Tidewell Hospice and/or the Make-A-Wish foundation, two organizations that cared for John and his family.
