Marceline Kay James

Marceline Kay (Moseman) James of Englewood, Florida, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024, with her daughter Dianna and her beloved aide Andre by her side.

Kay was born July 7, 1929, in Erie, Pennsylvania. During her elementary school years, she attended several of the one-room schoolhouses in Greenfield Township, Pennsylvania.

Her 9th and 10th grade years were at Harborcreek Township School District in Erie. She graduated from Chautauqua Central School, Chautauqua, New York, and went on to attend Bryant & Stratton Business College in Buffalo, New York.

During her years after business school, Kay was a secretary and bookkeeper for several business and educational school offices in the Chautauqua area. Then, she became co-owner and bookkeeper for her husband’s businesses.

Kay married Clifford James on January 7, 1949, and spent 75 years with him. The family grew to include two daughters, Linda and Diana, 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Many kids from their Florida neighborhood called her Grandma.

Kay enjoyed reading, sewing, knitting, and traveling with Cliff. They traveled all over the lower United States, made 5 driving trips to Alaska, and had a few trips overseas.

Kay was predeceased by her parents, her husband, 1 sister, and 1 grandchild. Her survivors include several nieces and nephews.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 16, at 10 am in the Doan Chapel of the Englewood Methodist Church, 700 East Dearborn, St., Englewood. A time of sharing memories with friends and family will follow the service.
