Margaret Lee Kuhn Edelblute

Margaret Lee Kuhn Edelblute passed away peacefully on February 9, 2024, under the loving care of Tidewell Hospice. She was an inspirational and caring woman, a loving wife, and a wonderful mother. Born on April 15, 1932, to Charles and Pansie Kuhn in Charleston, West Virginia; she graduated from Charleston High School, graduated from Bradford College and received her bachelor’s degree from Carnegie Mellon University. She was a sister of the Chi Omega Sorority. While she was at Carnegie Mellon University she met her husband of 59 years, Thomas Hastings Edelblute Jr.

Margaret was a caring person who wanted to help all that she knew. Having lived all over the world with Thomas, who worked for the United States State Department. She lived in Costa Rica, India, Belarus, Barbados and twice in Turkey before coming to live in Sarasota. Wherever she lived she actively volunteered to help others. If there was not an opportunity to volunteer, she would create one! She was always active with her church, and gave generously of her time, talent, and treasures. Whether it was leading a church circle, acting as an elder at the church or collecting bassinets for mothers in need, she would always give it her all.

During her travels with Tom, she adapted to every city in which they lived and was an avid shopper and collector of local wares. Whether it was hunting for oriental rugs at the Grand Bazaar of Istanbul or discovering a jewelry store in a back alley of Calcutta, she always knew where to find the best deals. She often led shopping expeditions of dignitaries and their spouses who were visiting Tom’s current post.

Margaret was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Founders Garden Club, the Baronial Order of Runnymede, the Order of the Garter, and the Church of Palms.

She loved her family and will be dearly missed which includes her son David Edelblute and wife, Laura of Granville, Ohio; sister Alice LaFollette of Sarasota; step-grandchildren Justin ((Katie) Maxwell; William (Carly) Maxwell; and Andrew Maxwell as well as many nieces, nephews and their children that loved her very much. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas H. Edelblute Jr., her son Thomas H. Edelblute III and her brother Charles Kuhn.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at the Church of the Palms. The service will be live-streamed on the Palms website and Facebook page.
