Tidewell Foundation Awarded $30,000 from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County for Program Featuring Air Force One Commander on 9/11, in Honor of Veterans
Tidewell Foundation received a $30,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Sarasota County through the Walter Haskins Fund in memory of Stacey K. Haskins in support of a special tribute to our area’s veterans.
At 10 a.m. September 28, 2022, Col. Mark W. Tillman, Commander and Pilot of Air Force One on 9/11, will discuss his experiences and moments in history. The program, at Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, is presented by Tidewell Hospice and its Tidewell Honors Veterans Program, in partnership with Tidewell Foundation.
Col. Tillman, an Air Force veteran with 30-years of service, was selected for his compelling story about protecting the president during an uncertain time in our history, including his secret mission to fly the Commander-in-Chief into a war zone in Bagdad, Iraq, in time for Thanksgiving dinner with servicemen and women.
Tidewell Honors Veterans respectfully celebrates our community’s veterans and provides specialized care that recognizes the unique challenges that may exist in military families. Since 2008, the program has served more than 21,000 veterans in Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte and DeSoto counties. Tidewell Honors Veterans has a Level 5 certification, the highest available, in the We Honor Veterans national program.
“We are grateful for the Community Foundation of Sarasota County and its support in recognition of our veterans,” said Tidewell Foundation President Debbie Mason. “Thanks to that support, this special program is offered free of charge, and we are welcoming veterans and others to join us.” No tickets or registration are required.
