Stephen French Crispell
Stephen French Crispell 80 of Lakewood Ranch, FL died Friday, January 12, 2024, in his home surrounded by loved ones after a short illness. Born on April 17, 1943, in Portsmouth, VA. He traveled all over the world with his Dad, Commander. Albert E. Crispell, a career Naval Officer, prior to joining the Navy himself in 1960. After an honorable discharge in 1964, he moved to the metropolitan Washington, DC area where he joined several contracting firms before joining the Navy as a civilian working for the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI). He retired from ONI after 25 years of Federal Service in 1997. In 2001, he and his wife, Julia moved to Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Commander Albert Emery Crispell and Ruth Emma (French) Crispell, his brother, Douglas Emery Crispell, sister, Caroline Crispell, daughter, Julie Marie Horan, son Duane French Crispell and Granddaughter, Sara Marie Crispell. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Julia Cathryn (Hicks) Crispell of Lakewood Ranch, daughters Eileen Teresa (John) DeAtley of Easton, MD, Sharon Frances (J. Thomas) Goucher of North Beach, MD, Mary Katherine Escalona of Herndon, VA, sons, Steven Michael Horan of Edgewood OH, Carl Lee (Rossanna) Crispell of Pasadena, MD, and William Thomas (Kimberly) Horan of Fairfax Station, VA. He is also survived by sister-in-law Mary C, Hicks, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends as well as 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangement by National Cremation and Burial Service, 2990 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota, FL (1-855-469-9474). The funeral is scheduled for March 1, 2024, at 12:30 pm at Sarasota National Memorial Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72 (I75 exit 205) Sarasota FL 34241.
